What is a Subscription?

Modified on Thu, 23 Jul at 10:10 PM

A Subscription is a recipient's registration to receive your documents digitally rather than by post. Each Subscription links a recipient to one of your Contacts and to a delivery channel, so Payreq knows who should receive a document and how to deliver it.

You may also see Subscriptions referred to as "registrations." The term changed to Subscription, but registration is still widely used, including by customers and in parts of the console, and the two mean the same thing.

Subscriptions are one of the three core concepts in Payreq Delivery, alongside Contacts and Mail:

  • A Contact is the record of who a document belongs to.
  • A Subscription is the recipient's choice to receive that Contact's documents digitally, through a particular channel.
  • Mail is the documents themselves, delivered according to the Subscription.

Where Subscriptions come from

In most cases you don't create Subscriptions yourself. A recipient chooses to receive your documents digitally, connects to your organisation in Payreq, and provides the details that match them to the right Contact. That request becomes a Subscription in your account.

Depending on your setup, a new Subscription may need your review and approval before it becomes active, or it may be approved automatically when the recipient enters the required authorisation details correctly (for example their name exactly as it appears on the document). You can also create a Subscription on behalf of a customer where that's appropriate, see Creating a Subscription on behalf of a customer.

Delivery channels

A Subscription is tied to a delivery channel, the way the recipient receives their documents. Payreq Delivery supports Payreq Mailbox, email, BPAY View, and Peppol eInvoicing. A single recipient can hold more than one Subscription, for example both email and BPAY View. For what each channel offers, see Subscription channels: what's available in Payreq Delivery.

Subscription statuses

Each Subscription has a status that tells you where it's up to, for example active, pending, failed, or flagged Deregister? You review and manage these from the Subscriptions page. For the full list of statuses and how to read the page, see Navigating the Subscriptions page: overview and statuses.

Managing your Subscriptions

From the Subscriptions page you can view, approve, and manage Subscriptions, download subscription information, and act on any that need attention. These guides cover the common tasks:
